. Why
It Takes a Rocket Scientist.
|
It is not always fitting to jump into something without a proper introduction, so allow me to introduce myself and the staff here at Boy Choir Magazine. My name is Dennis Chamberland, and I’m the magazine's Editor in Chief. I have a background in journalism, am the author of many published articles, nine books and well, ‘this is not my first rodeo’ as the Yanks are fond of saying. But I also have a long background as chorister – and – I am also a scientist and an engineer for NASA at the John F. Kennedy Space Center. So, indeed, it does take a rocket scientist to run things around here!
I am a former chorister myself - as a child in various choirs, as a teen and as an adult in the Oklahoma State University Glee Club and the U.S. Navy Bluejacket Choir. What does a boy chorister grow up to be? Well, in most cases - anything but a boy chorister, to be sure. Said Thomas Wolfe, "Man's youth is a wonderful thing: it is so full of anguish and of magic, and he never comes to know it as it is until it has gone from him forever." Time, circumstances and hormones quickly take their toll. But sometimes that boy can turn around as a man and make a difference in the very thing he outgrew. While in life it may be necessary to step aside and allow the new generation to assume their rightful place – it is also important that the older guys hang around to help the new crop become even more successful. And that’s why I’m doing this. What does a boy chorister grow up to be? Rocket scientists, engineers, authors, journalists, lawyers, doctors, and teachers – you name it. But they don’t have to go away – ever.
I frequently use the word “we”. The “we” I refer to are the staff at Boy Choir Magazine. BCM is run via the sponsorship of Quantum Editions, our family run publishing house. We are made up of my awesome wife, Claudia and we have a lot of help in all phases of our operations from our six grown children – five boys and one girl.
So I end this introduction with a pledge to you – our dear readers. We publish Boy Choir Magazine for you! We pledge to answer each and every email we receive, period. We will also listen to you and do whatever we can to make you happy and in turn – to make Boy Choirs even more successful all over the world!
God bless each of you, Godspeed and may His grace abound in your lives though His purpose and His magnificent music sung by voices of His precious earthbound angels. Soli Deo Gloria!
