Dennis Chamberland wrote the landmark cover story on Genetic Engineering for Christianity Today in 1986. The President's Commission for the Study of Ethical Problems in Medicine and Behavioral Research cited the article and used its text for their concluding remarks. The article has also been widely cited and reprinted in other Bio-ethics journals and papers, including the opening words of Universal Principles of Biomedical Ethics and Their Application to Gene-Splicing, a report issued by the American Scientific Affiliation. The essay has appeared in college and university textbooks and is included in Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum alongside the essays of Aldous Huxley, Stephen J. Gould and William F. Buckley. It has also been translated into three languages.
