Our Purpose:

The League of the New Worlds is a non-profit research foundation committed to the permanent human settlement of the ocean and space frontiers.  The League is primarily an expeditions and explorations based group.  It is our express purpose to plan, design, launch and permanently occupy the unsettled regions of the world’s oceans and space.  We approach our purpose with an incremental development of off-the-shelf technologies integrated with intelligence and purposeful synergy, fusing the goals of ocean and space settlement into a single enterprise called the League of the New Worlds.

It seems like an unlikely dream.  But that notion is itself an illusion.  It is not an illusion or a dream at all, but an incrementally achievable plan by people with an intelligent vision and a background of successful achievement in exploration and in penetrating the frontiers.

The road to space and the roads into the permanent human settlement of the world’s oceans is paved with – what else – single paving stones.  They are single achievable steps that, when all lined up by a master plan and a comprehensive vision, all lead to the stated goal.  It’s not hard – it’s careful and insightful planning.

The first question we are always asked is why are we trying to merge ocean exploration with space exploration?

We are not!  They do not need merging because they already are!  Space systems and undersea systems are interchangeable because they are; for the most part, are doing the same thing – keeping humans alive, happy and productive in remote and extreme environments.

The next question is related to the first – how can an ocean settlement benefit a space settlement?

By spin-offs in both directions.  Humans out of their element require specialized systems to survive.

Then follows an incorrect conclusion to which the answer is: NO, we are not using the oceans as an analog to space in order to settle the space frontier!

This will engender a most vigorous defense!  There is a seriously lopsided interest in space when compared to undersea settlement and exploration.  Just compare the dollars spent and it becomes immediately obvious.  But we are not in that game.  We know full well that humans will soon permanently reside in human colonies and outposts in both the oceans of the world and in space.  We have no intention of using one to leverage the other.  They are both of equal significance and excitement.  We go to the oceans first simply because we have relatively easy access and intend to take full advantage of that!

The next objection is usually money – it costs way too much for a private foundation to do these things.

Resource limitation is obvious – but only when one looks at the process using old-school methods and old-school processes.  Yes, if we were intended to go about it using these approaches, we would quit right now and not waste our time.  But – there is a process we employ that we call “radical creativity”.  While we agree with Scotty that we “…can’t change the laws of physics.”, we also believe that by using our intelligence, by learning what did not work in the past and by leveraging on what we have already done correctly, we can and will make a new way.  Dollars are not the only limitations.  More so than dollars are the barriers of attitude and fear – none of which are welcome or permitted to become a part of the League of the New Worlds.  We can and will do it better and radically different.  That’s precisely what makes our team different than all the rest!
